From Humble Beginnings to Bright Futures
St. John's School was founded in 1980 as a ministry of St. John's Episcopal Church in Roseville, California. Originally called St. John’s Christian School, it was known in those days as “the little country school on the edge of town.” Enrollment in the first year was 15-20 students. In the decades since, the school has enjoyed robust growth and increasing recognition as an educational standout.
In the mid-1980s, the school moved into four classrooms in the church’s Parish Hall (Zannon Hall). During this time, St. John’s began offering grade-school classes to an ever-expanding student body. Additional classrooms were added in the early 1990s, and soon the issue of space began to present itself as a concern for both the school and the church.
By 1994, the school had enrolled more than 100 students, and two more classrooms were added in the form of a portable building. In 1999, St. John’s added seventh and eighth grade classes, and enrollment grew to 200 students. Five additional classrooms were built into Zannon Hall.
At this time, discussion began about a building new facility for the school. However, it soon became clear that the school’s current location would not be sufficient for a new building and it would not meet the school’s and student’s needs.
An alternative presented itself when WestPark and Signature Properties generously offered 10 acres of land for the church and the school in their new development on Fiddyment Road. Though the approval process took longer than expected, the church and school eventually received title to their new property on St. Patrick's Day 2006.
With the help of architects Dan Cook and Associates, a new school has been planned in a 72,000-square foot facility that will house 550 students. Pre-School through eighth grade classes are expected to open at the new campus in the fall of 2008. St. John’s School is also pursuing opportunities to develop a high school and further extend its mission.
With a bright future ahead and an exceptional school family to help us grow, our blessings are many. We remain committed to the principles of superior education and individual attention that we have become known for here at St. John’s School, and we look forward to great success in our new facility.
