trustees scholars program

The Trustees of St. John’s School recognize that excellence requires a combination of a strong faculty, a challenging academic program and an outstanding student body. With this in mind, they have initiated The Trustees Scholars Program. It will provide up to six scholarship awards to students who have exhibited exceptional academic achievement and citizenship. The awards are made to rising sixth grade students.  Each award takes the form of $2000.00 remission from the annual tuition. Should a student leave before the year is completed the award is prorated. So long as a student maintains a high level of performance, the award will also be made in the seventh and eighth grade years. Should they determine that there are not enough candidates who meet their criteria, the Trustees are not obligated to make all six awards. Up to three awards will be made to students who have attended St John’s in the fifth grade and up to three awards will be given to new enrollees. The school will make every effort to publicize the existence of the scholarships on its website, through a letter to current parents, through the church newsletter and the Bishop’s weekly e-mail to the diocese and in the local media.

In order to qualify for the award the students must submit academic records from the 4th and 5th grade years along with teacher recommendations. They must take the Educational Records Bureau Test which will be administered by the school. The sections of the test that will be taken are Verbal Reasoning(35 minutes), Vocabulary(20 minutes), Reading Comprehension(40 Minutes), and Quantitative Reasoning(45 minutes). With breaks between tests the total battery of tests will last 2 ½ hours. Parents of new enrollees will be asked to attend a brief informational session about St. John’s while their students are being tested.

Notice of the Awards will be given to the students within 10 days of their taking the tests. The school will also issue a press release to the local media. Students receiving these merit based scholarships may also apply for need based financial aid and those demonstrating financial need may receive additional funds. The Trustees Scholarship will however be considered part of a financial aid package and will not be given as additional funds.
